MiniDisc uses data compression (not unlike the MP3 format, or the Roland
VS series recorders) to squeeze more sound into its memory.  So when you
record onto MD, you're NOT recording pure, uncompressed 44.1 kHz/16-bit
CD quality audio.  Some data (i.e. sound quality) is getting filtered
out in the process.
