i have not followed this thread carefully...that said...

john blacet has a midi clock chip that he sells that converts midi clock 
into gate pulses.  with a simple divide by x circut, and with a simple 
pulse/short circut (1 diode, 1 resistor, 1 transistor...like the v-trig to 
s-trig converter), you could do this (for around, i would guess, $25-30).
