I think the ":" simply truncates the message headers in the digest, just as
the "/" truncates them. Try sending a message with a subject that contains 
a
"/" - the digest will only display whatever comes before (or after?) the 
"/"
character. Your original message header carrying the "way off topic" was
still contained in the msg.
