Re: y2k7 mp3s

it is, of course, night and day...

I just can't believe how that low-end sounds so intact and beautiful in an mp3... i've got my subwoofer on and it sounds absolutely beautiful in here...

I wish i knew live recording better so as to offer an educated comment, but at first blush I'd think mic placement and number of channels (more than stereo)  would be the key, rather than depending on a stereo mic... gotta capture that low end in some specific manner I'd think...

but that's not a pro view, of course...

this is a great track anyway, thanks for the opportunity to listen to it.

Here is an experiment:

Listen to both of these recordings of Henry Kaiser at Y2K7, or just the
first minute of each file to get a flavor of the sound.

Can anyone here any differences in the two files? If so, what? Which one do
you prefer?

Another experiment:

These two files of are of me and Lucio Menegon. One is direct from the
board, the other is just from his Eidorol recorder.

http://www.box.net/shared/static/kiq0gf9key.mp3 (MP3) - Live mic version

Any preference? Notice how the mic version in no way captures the major low
end frequency of my guitar part (using pitch shifter and string tuned down
to very low...it's probably in the 10-20k range. I don't think I've
experienced a mic that could capture this in the same way as the driect
recording. Maybe a $1000 + grade mic?
