I have no idea, I'm afraid. And I don't bother. Technical stuff like
that is what I use sound cards and audio devices for. What I care
about though is to set the audio clock master/slave relation correctly
and then I simply pipe over ADAT or S/PDIF and let the software handle
it the way it's designed to do.

The question about "truncating" is not correctly put, because you are
talking about a stream but asking about a file. That's two different
processes and you are in fact answering the question in your post! :-)
 For the latter part, weather Ableton Live sens 32 bit floating point,
I guess you should check with the manual?
