Good point, Buzrap! A *mono compatible* stereo signal sounds
significantly better if monofied by plain summing of the left and
right channel. Some effect devices create Extra Wide Stereo by simple
phasing technique and this is not very mono compatible. But it really
is possible to make wide stereo effects that still reflect the
original frequency distribution and levels when crushed into mono; if
you have that kind of signal it might sound ok as mono.
