I had that problem with one particular FW400 cable (not yet with the
smaller FW800 plug). This was on an Apple computer that has the bigger
jack and my guess is that the problematic cable was too heavy and
dragged down/out the plug. Anyway, I solved it right there by using a
different cable that is shorter and lighter. For Windows computers the
manufacturers consequently uses smaller FW cables and jacks.

If you are using an Apple box you might want to restrain from powering
up FW devices by the FW cable and and stick with a dedicated power
adapter/cable instead. This would be a safety precaution to avoid
crashing or a system restart if the FW cable should slip out.
