Re: WHAT SORTS OF FIREWIRE INTEFACES ARE PEOPLE USING THESE DAYS?

I might get shot here but i hated the Motu ultra lite,i bought because of all the hype of having an internal digital mixer with FX and all, but somehow it stopped me from concetrating on music, dont know what software u are using but my main problem with it was the whole midi syncing with mobius, very unreliable when sending midi note messages to trigger all the advance midi comands,i spent so much time calling the company about this issues and i finally went back to the cheap presonus firebox which always worked very reliable in that department!
i do have to say thought that the preamps on the firebox are not the best sounding so i upgraded to an RME FW 400 and i m happy,it is expensive, but playing acoustic guitar i need a cristal clear sound and this baby provides it.
cheers

Hi all!

I have been getting by on a borrowed MOTU Ultralite for a number of months now while I explore the world of software looping, Max MSP and other software audio processing possibilities.

What are people out there using that sounds really, really good?

I can't help but feel that the MOTU I've got is sucking something vital out of my sound - though it comes very highly recommended.

It also has enough extra inputs and outputs to make it quite useful and flexible as a stand-alone rackmount mixer.

But utility aside, though I can't quite put my finger on it, the sound doesn't ring my bell.

I'm just looking for other options and suggestions.

The MOTU was loaned to me on indefinite terms by a good friend.

I was thinking about buying one (or some other unit) for myself and returning it to its owner.

Keeping in mind that I am strictly in the Apple/Mac computer dominion and prefer FireWire connectivity, what do people suggest?

Best,
