Actually, Alesis put a better implementation of the algorithm in the old
Quadraverb Plus. That one has five resonators which can either be
individually tuned each to a static value, or can be played with a keyboard
via MIDI.

Don't know why they decided to go with only a single resonator on the
Akira,
as that really is a soup-to-nuts "I'm gonna mangle this sound into
incoherence" box, and a multi-resonator would be right up it's alley.
Perhaps they just didn't want to expand the MIDI capability solely for that
algorithm. Although they did tie the resonator to an LFO, so it's possible
to have some fun by letting it sweep a given frequency spectrum, especially
if you do things like tie the rate to a continuous controller.

And of course, you can roll your own by using the Resonator function in
Live
in conjunction with the verb of your choice. As I've said before, if you
really want to f*ck something up, get a computer.
