Woodstock did beat Glastonbury Faire (or Festival) in the UK by a
year, but so what? Glastonbury has been STILL happening yearly (off
and on in earlier years) ever since then and over all, with very few
problems considering the huge numbers of attendees that show up every
year. Of course, as with any huge festival anywhere, there are bound
to be at least
some problems, but GF's over all track record is pretty Impressive.
Hurray! Check out it's history:

Actually, I would say that the notorious Altamont Free Festival in
1969 (with the Rolling Stones, etc) was "the beginning of the end".
Someone got killed there by the Hell's Angels.
To my knowledge, no one died under any circumstances at Woodstock and
there was even someone BORN there! Pretty much the opposite of Altamont.

Indeed, and he also came REAL close to teaming up with Arthur Brown,
in Arthur's band The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. He and Arthur were
early and great friends.
Now THAT would have been an INCREDIBLE band! BTW, Arthur is STILL
active and performing, recording, etc even today. What a survivor!
