midi converters KM string port vs roland GI20

has anybody compared this? id like to know how fast and reliable they
are,the string port has USB which the GI-20 doesnt
The sofstep was a bit of dissapointment so i want to be careful if i
was to get this one.
 im looking to get a midi converter to notate music and trigger
software synths,i know i can do it with my roland GR33 but i m selling
it and want to get something small for my desk anyway.
