total improv...

i would also recommend the dvd that nels cline did w/ a visual artist (painter) that came out last yr, around this time.
i can't for the life of me remember the name of the dvd (title) or the name of the artist he works w/
but the dvd is 2 performances of nels creating music/music backdrop to the artist creating a work in front of an audience.
the sounds that nels comes up w/ are most inspiring...he uses is EH 16ddl and korg kaoss pad a lot in it...
and it really shows the artist....
ok,... i looked it up in the archives (was un-lazy), it's: "Stained Radiance" dvd

some interesting stuff dealing w/ improv, both musically and visually...the technique the artist uses is similar to
what i remember seeing of a movie back in undergrad called "picasso painting" (or something like that), picasso was painting on
a see through membrane that the filmmakers shot from the back. it was interesting....
