Re: EDP, DirectMIDI, quant, 8ths

Mark, and Per,

Yes, Program Changes for EDP preset changes are the basis for the
controller setup. But I find there are too many permutations of possible
presets for that to be the complete solution. 5 or 6 basic workflows, then
each wants some quant or 8ths or swichQuant or Insert variation, too much
hunting and pecking.

So, two more levels I have added to my 5 or 6 basic preset workflows:

1) Virtual Parameter button: each patch on my FC 300 includes not only
preset program changes, but a parameter button, so that worst case I can
do with my feet what I used to do with my hands :)

2) Control Switches: Depending upon the workflow (glitching,
quantSubstitute, unrounded mult, stutter, etc), there are usually a couple
of salient needs that are related to the context. For instance,
quantSubstitute may want the ability to quickly move between 8th settings.
So I make those available on Control Switches for that patch... and in
that example, the SysEx string is what i needed to get that, as there is
no directMIDI for the 8th values. I have 4 control switches available
currently: I use two for global needs common to every patch (for me) :
Set Start Point and QuantMIDIStartSong, then the other two are set up on a
per-patch basis as described.

This setup scheme seems to get me to where I want to be with a minimal
amount of tap dancing 90% percent of the time. Hooray !

Phil :)
