Okay but the Boss RC 30 can do about 16 loops can't it? And I've seen a couple on eBay for less than £200.  Do you think this might be good for what I'm trying to do?

Let me stop you right there...  this you won't find in any unit in the price range you're looking at.  If that's really what you need, I'd suggest going the software route.
