Re: So what music are you listening

I'm obsessed with the latest Kurt Vile record and have already made my own Karaoke tracks of a couple of my favorite tracks
"Life Like Mine" and "That's Life (though I almost hate to say it)"

I'm also going, periodically, through all of the tunes that I do regularly on my jazz gig and
learning how to play them on piano/vibes and alto saxophone.

I have a new setup where I lug my 88 key sample Bosendorfer grand piano to my gig and set it up across my bass drum (with the snare, hi hat and cymbals to the immediate left of my bass notes on the keyboard) so I can play drumset and keys at the same time, or either
individually, so I'm just trying to get to be a better keyboardist.

So, I've been listening to Nardis, Caravan, Night in Tunisia, Red Clay/Sunny), Crystal Silence and a couple of really beautiful arrangements (Jesse Elias's arrangment of Black Orpheus
and Marshall Otwell's arrangement in 5/4 of 'On Green Dolphin Street')

Lastly, since the passing of David Bowie, Paul Kantner and Dan Hicks,
I've been revisiting those artists with a particular emphasis on the best of the
original SF psychedelic bands (especially the Jefferson Airplane).

I'm getting great joy, lately, and just for a goof, of making my own Karaoke tracks (of songs where there are not official Karaoke versions) and going down to sing them at this wonderful, supportive and creative
weekly karaoke night).

In fact, I'm going there now.....................gonna sing some Beck, Gotye ('Bronte') and maybe
some Lana Del Ray <grin>
