OT: Re: jazz on tele's etc. Tone control

To cite the late Ken Fisher of Trainwreck amps: "Never use a ceramic
disc as a tone cap in a guitar." This was in series of online
articles, I just found them again:

I haven't read them all, but I stumbled on the bit about the old
paper-in-oil tonecaps known as "BumbleBees" and/or "Black Beauties" a
couple of years ago. I personally really like these for that dark Jim
Hall/John Abercrombie-type tone and also they influence the overall
treble of the tone pot, even when fully up. Lots of useable tones
throughout the range! In the custom made Deimel axe that I use mostly
these days (my vintage 335 becoming too valuable to take on the road)
I use WCR Crossraod PAF's with great results but the vintage
BumbleBee happens to be the only NOS part in the whole instrument.

Might not be for everyone, I saw the Ghost Pickup demo and was quite
impressed, there seems to be real progress with piezos. Still
probably not for me... As far as flatwounds, I do not use them on a
regular basis. I just mentioned them as a cheap and quick way to get
into some completely different sonic terrain on your instrument
without buying something new.

Best, Andreas
