recording step-sequencer

i dug through the archives but found nothing, so here goes:

does anybody know of a real-time recording step sequencer plug-in? i'm shooting for mpc-style quantized recording, not unlike the feature in ableton live/ni maschine. i'm not buying ableton and i don't want/need maschine's proprietary controller. i would like to use my alesis control pad to play/record drum and synth sequences on the fly.

any and all help is, as always, greatly appreciated.
