The sampler EXS24 is also part of Logic. Both EXS24 and UltraBeat can
be loaded with your own samples, so you don't have to use some library
sound that you might not like. If you plan to create a lot of your own
drum kit instruments the EXS24 is much simpler to work with. It is
just a sampler though, while the UltraBeat also offers synthesized
tone creation plus built-in step sequencer.

I doubt you will find anything for free that is simpler to use than
using the EXS24 in Logic.
