What about sending your gear ahead of you using Fed Ex or UPS?

You can pack it yourself soundly, and these people are used to sending reasonably delicate gear from place to place (think of how many hard drives, guitars and vases are sent through them...)

Plus, you don't have to carry it through the airports, big advantage!
