Yep, you can say that, and we use similar setups btw. I started
looping with the DD-20 and I'm still using it as a spare looper in
case my laptop crashes. I have tried the RC-50 but didn't like it due
to the lack of feedback control. Next was the LP1, great concept but
my unit it needs to be repared, so I can't use it now and will
probably sell it once it's repaired. Probably my own fault, I fried
the input amps when creating some drones ;-)
I currently use a M13 and a Lexicon for pre-FX and then the signal
goes into the laptop for some more FX treatment plus 2 instances of
Augustus Loop, the great tape delay plugin from our friend Os. I use
Augustus the same way as I use the DD-20, which means a pre-defined
loop length, and unsynced. I must say this setup is very stable now,
but in case something happens, I have the M13 and DD-20 as a backup
system. The DD-20 saved my ass already once, that was during the
Premonition Factory album presentation earlier this year. I only had
the DD-20 as backup then and 1 synth, that was almost a sort of
unplugged looping ;-)
I was hoping the Rang III would be the 1st compact stereo looper with
3 unsynced tracks with feedback control, reverse, half speed and good
audio specs and headroom, yes please. Or otherwise Boss should create
the Delay DD-200 Super Delay with 3 extended DD-20's on board, with
reverse and halfspeed and 40 seconds of stereo looping per delay. That
would be just perfect for ambient.
