I think it's like, if you're constantly rehearsing standards for wedding gigs you can't be developing your own music.
Fair enough, but surely being a professional musician would mean you are in a creative environment consistently rather than sporadically like us hobbiests, which would suggest that the creativity is flowing constantly rather than sporadically? Also you would possibly be able to grow as a musician to be able to push the boundaries further than if you were doing the music thing in your spare time.
