WHAT SORTS OF FIREWIRE INTEFACES ARE PEOPLE USING THESE DAYS?

Hi all!

I have been getting by on a borrowed MOTU Ultralite for a number of  
months now while I explore the world of software looping, Max MSP and  
other software audio processing possibilities.

What are people out there using that sounds really, really good?

I can't help but feel that the MOTU I've got is sucking something  
vital out of my sound - though it comes very highly recommended.

It also has enough extra inputs and outputs to make it quite useful  
and flexible as a stand-alone rackmount mixer.

But utility aside, though I can't quite put my finger on it, the sound  
doesn't ring my bell.

I'm just looking for other options and suggestions.

The MOTU was loaned to me on indefinite terms by a good friend.

I was thinking about buying one (or some other unit) for myself and  
returning it to its owner.

Keeping in mind that I am strictly in the Apple/Mac computer dominion  
and prefer FireWire connectivity, what do people suggest?
