Re: Epic Octatrack Performance Sampler Teaser....

Mark,

it is the overwhelming excess and quantity that I find difficult to handle: numbs the brain. It leaves no room for any kind of sensation other than adrenalin. I am tired of it.

My boy is now eleven and pretty level headed, thank god. He likes martial arts cartoons of the esoteric variety.

Violence and confrontation are part of life, but there are other things too... I actually spend a fair part of each day practicing martial arts of the internal chinese qi gong variety. I can deal with violence when there is  a need. i also learn to deal with my own needles violence and fear.

What i despise is the meaningless display of perverse aggression, and you are right he sicko sex violence that goes with it. What does it mean?

Anyway, let#s produce something else:-)

Antony

Thanks for the clarification Anthony, and thanks for the link Anders.

As to your deeper point Anthony, about accepting violence in our mass media as the norm. I have to agree that although I don't personally find any of it particularly offensive, I am also concerned as to the AMOUNT of it.
Especially one who has a young child who is entering into this new world. It does seem sometimes that ALL our films / entertainment is swimming in gratuitous blood and gore. The normal fare that one is presented on hit shows such as C.S I, or Dexter, or House (bit of a fan of House I must say... I love Hugh Lawrie) is overwhelming, and that story lines are only concerned with serial murder, sick sex, terrorism or war. Indeed the graphic depiction of such is not particularly different on prime time TV with content that during the 80's was branded as Video Nasties. And I should know, I watched it all!

Maybe Im getting old here, but certainly having a young child has focused my opinion in the world where they market Spiderman / Batman pajamas to the under fives is unacceptable to me. No longer are these icons those of cute 50's comic book moralising about good and evil, no, the films themselves are rated as 11 years plus. Not to mention "Freddie" or "Scream" masks.
Indeed, make a search on YouTube (this being the main source of "TV" for many children) for "Video Nasty" you WILL find edit compilations, out of context, from all the worse scenes from Cannibal Holocaust, Snuff, Driller Killer.. and I dont want to even think about the YouTube craze for forcing kids to watch the scatological porn clip known as 2 girls 2 cup.

Anthony, I COMPLETELY agree with that point you were making... sorry if I didn't respond to THAT, its a very important issue, and one that means that my kids do not get to watch ANY TELEVISION OR COMPUTER without me or my wife being present, and I expect this rule will continue until they are teens.
