I have an old TV set but it is only used as a "monitor" for my DVD
player and my (yes old but still works great) VCR. Otherwise, I am
now nearing *23 years*
of NOT watching tee vee....ANY tee vee. Why bother? It's usually
vapid crap anyway and mostly a mind rot and more specifically, a
means to better serve
commercial interests and promote more Materialism and mass
consumption (and WASTE) and other mind numbing stupidity and ignorance.
One has to only know about (haha) "fair and balanced" Faux
Fraudcasting and "news" and "entertainment" for how LOW this can go.
(and with no end in sight)

Books and other things are far more important and WORTHY and
enriching etc. (and they don't add to your electrical utility bill,
either!)

There's also a book that came out YEARS ago (1978!) that I'll
eventually read entitled "Four Arguments for the Elimination of
Television" by Jerry Mander.
The title alone was what hooked me into wanting to check it out. It
is next in line to read after I finish the excellent and INTENSE
biography and study of Gyorgy Ligeti.

On the subject of the 60's, for a REAL "trip" (haha), check out the
2DVD autobiographical film by singer / poet Donovan entitled (what
else?) 'Sunshine Superman'.
It is GREAT and has a LOT of old and RARE footage from the 60's,
going back as far as 1963, or 1965 or so and on through the next
couple of decades and on
up to very recent years. The main disc is THREE HOURS LONG and is a
LOT of fun!. I've not seen the bonus disc yet, but I know it is not
nearly as long, but will
still likely have some great surprises and more fun. The set also has
a great little booklet and comes in a *beautiful* full color box.
Definitely REVcommended!

PS- I see that the LA Times recently came out with an editorial
slamming Faux Fraudcasting. Excellent. It's about damn time and LONG
overdue that something
other than the alternative and independent media did this.
