Re: Midi Guitars and Guitar Synths
For midi guitar info, check out these news groups and websites:
http://www.eGroups.com/list/midiguitar/info.html
http://www.onelist.com/community/GR-30
http://www.egroups.com/group/digital-guitar/info.html
also see
http://www.vg-8.com
A number of manufacturers participate on some of these lists and are quite
helpful.
The VG-8 is NOT a guitar synth, but the pickup technology used to drive a
VG-8 is the exact same thing used for guitar synths. There's a good deal
of
cross-over in the 2 areas.
My recommendation: the Roland GR-30 with a Roland GK-2A pickup mounted on
your favorite electric guitar (or backup if you have 2) is a great way to
get into midi guitar. It's a pretty good combination of price and
performance. There are arguably better pickups and synths, but they cost
more of course. Watch ebay for a few weeks and you'll surely see a GR-30
and/or a GK-2a pop up for auction.
Good luck!
