If it is an older unit, you may find the EDP gain stage modification 
detailed in the FAQ to be useful:

this mod has been added to the production for all units made in the last 
couple years though, so it may or may not apply to you. One thing this mod 
does is increase the output gain, since the original design was a little 
quiet.
