As a generalization it's largely true in California from what I know. 
The coastal cities voted Dem and the inland and agricultural/rural areas
voted Repub.  

Generally speaking I like this bumpesticker

"Elephants and asses are leading us astray"

This has something to do with looping I'm sure I just can't think of it
right now.
