RE: BOSE PAS
Title: Re: BOSE PAS
Well
its not just the weight which is a factor, but the hoisting it up on
speaker stands that is more of an issue with back problems, to me
the fact that the PAS has more moving parts does mean more trips, but I
would say the heaviest part of the system, the aforementioned base board /power
amp/ mixing console is considerably lighter in weight than a mackie
SM450.
Now the new lighter weight SM350s that I own, are much lighter
weight the the SM450's, though are lower powered and have a smaller driver, that
might be an option as well. I also don't think two systems are necessary
unless one absolutely has to have stereo, but there is no reason one couldn't
combine a PAS with components from a conventional system to achieve stereo.
example: a PAS and a single SM450 or 350 for combined for stereo
applications. I've tried it and it works great.

No, if I myself might chime it...
Excuse me
bill, but I wanted to add...
These things are NOT light.
The sub is the easiest part.
The amp itself is very heavy,
the two pillar parts are less heavy, but still one in each hand, and the sub
is the lightest part, like a light guitar amp.
An amp in each hand to
start and I already get tired. Therefore I don’t carry them to EVERY
gig. Two jbl’s or mackie 15s would be a little heavier than each piece,
but, you’re talking eight separate pieces for a bose stereo setup, so ease and
lightness is not really the reason to get ‘em. Bill what do YOU
think?

bill.....compared to the srm's, is it an easier (lighter) schlepp
to move the bose set up, assuming you are using 2 for stereo and both will
have a sub?.....i love my srm's but they continue to be way too big for what
i need, in fact the very thought of moving them makes me
shudder!.....thnaks.....mic
