Sorry to bring up such an every-day name on such an esoteric mailing list.
George Michael, on his first solo tour, had huge displays of numbers
counting up throughout the show, on either side of the stage. It was
actualy
the timecode readout from the synchroniser that ran the tape machine (for
backing vocals and other acoustic instruments) and the two MC-50 sequencers
(for everything else). Yes he had a full band on stage, but they were hired
to look good. And this was the late 80s. At least he sang live, unlike
Jacko.

I once saw a performance by Mannheim Steamroller. He had the MIDI score
rolling by on the
screen as his sequencers were pumping out the canned-sounding music. While
I
found it interesting
to watch in an intellectual sort of way, it totally took away from the
music
being played.
