I know this sounds crazy (but it might just work!),
but why not get a full range pa style speaker of good
quality and use a good preamp or amp modeler before
it? This way you'll be able to get good electric
guitar, bass, acoustic and synths all from one
speaker. Lighten your load a bit too as some of them,
like the Mackie's are a bit lighter than a full on
guitar combo amp.
I can understand having a nice amp for home/studio
work but in todays topsy turvy world if you don't have
a roady I don't see the point in lugging one around.
Also, as sad as it may be, I doubt your audience would
notice the difference in most situations (except for
those on this list)
