Re: New improv posted: Daryl Shawn and Warren Sirota

All very visual Warren and good stuff, which is a strong suit of Daryl's I've come to know from working with him the last year and now in hearing more of you too, love the patches.  I too have a dated midi-guitar setup that I have done nothing with in many years.  I got it ahead of the technology as I was really interested in the mid-80's.  It's the Charvel/Jackson module with a hex pickup on a Japenese/Korean Strat clone.  Module wise I've used a TX81Z with it.  Every year I briefly seem to get it out and then move on.  At NAMM in January I played with the Roland Synth which I found interesting but for the money have been more driven to put the investment in real instruments which I've done plus with Chinapainting as you know we've been more to analog/real-time and minimal efx.  That all said your patches/voices on this tapestry of music with Daryl plus ones I recall you using at the end of Y2K when I joined in with you and Daryl last Oct are/were really cool.

About 20 years ago I was driving back home to Arkansas from New Orleans, was lost it was about mid-night in the bog lands of southern Louisiana, August and hot, it was the old City before the deluge of last year and when it was a very unique southern place.  The energy of what you guys created reminded me of that trip.

Thanks for the kind words, Jim. Louisiana swamp was not so far from the feeling in the air that day, as it happens. Nice call.

Warren again it was so kind of you to come to our first live-in-person Chinapainting show in Brooklyn.  Thanks so much for making the trek down to Brooklyn.

Man this suite of music you and Daryl created is really cool.  Love the patches and the intricacy particularly mid-way in the piece with some of your digital voicing and Daryl's trademark analog 4-track artistry/loops.  Excellent job guys and I have visions of Greenwood Lake which I haven't a clue what it's like there but this incarnation gives me a feeling of southern Louisana through the bogs at mid-night about 20 years ago.  Good stuff guys!

Best

Hi,

I had the pleasure of seeing/hearing Daryl and Jim Goodin's duo,
chinapainting, in Brooklyn a couple of weeks ago. It was a treat - all of
you going to loopfest in SC this fall should be sure to check them out.

Last week, Daryl dropped in to visit here in Greenwood Lake, and we jammed a
bit. I posted a recording of the first piece over on my home page, at
http://www.warrensirota.com. I think it came out rather well. Enjoy!
