Re: Vista (Re: Maple)
> Hey - is Mobius running well under Vista?
I've been doing all development under Vista for about 6 months.
Mobius, Bidule, Live 5, AudioMulch, Sonar, FL Studio, all seem to run
fine. I had to hunt for device drivers for some of my older hardware
like the Novation Remote 25 but the applications all seem to run
without modification.
But as we know, there's a difference between just being able to run
and running well under stress. I haven't really tried to find the
limits yet. Vista is an absolute pig so I wouldn't dream of
buying a Vista machine for audio with less than 2GB memory. Just
sitting around now with a couple of browsers open there is 845 MB
being used. If I kill off everything it drops to 760 MB just to
sit there doing nothing but run device drivers and look pretty.
The machine is an upper mid-range Gateway, Intel 6600 dual core at
2.40 GHz with 2GB memory and an NVIDIA 7600 GS. I would recommend at
least 128MB on the graphics card to make sure you don't start
allocating system RAM for graphics.
It feels nice and responsive even with all the fancy graphics turned
on. I did however have to spend a lot of time figuring out ways to
disable the "security" features which out of the box seem to
pop up and demand an anal probe every 5 minutes.
