Great writeup back there Rainer. One thing that hasn't been mentioned but I am assuming most people know: Software aside, you will get the lowest latency using a device which is not just ASIO compliant, but has a native ASIO driver (as opposed to a device that can be used by ASIO4All, but does not have an ASIO driver of it's own). the SME800 is such a device of course, but so are a variety of cheaper devices ... such as anything by M-AUDIO as well as the EDIROL firewire series (which also manages up to 10 inputs and 10 outputs ... not bad for ~$300). Another vital thing ... we all like the way windows keeps all sorts of crap running in the background, and Rainer is definitely right to mention MSCONFIG as it is very important to turn some stuff off, otherwise some damn program will always be trying to download the latest version of itself right as you are finishing your solo, and cause a nice little hiccup in the loops.
