I think the same. So I used a tube of... "Virtual Wood" or something  
similar. The only reason for filling up would be to prevent the neck  
to change due to less tension from the strings since a fretless  
guitar has much lower string action. In my case I changed the strings  
for much thicker ones so I guess that should compensate for the  
change in tension. So actually I might not have needed to fill in  
those slots but I did anyway just because I was curious. The de- 
fretted Telecaster is still working fine a couple of months after the  
surgery.
