Re: Fretless guitar built - ripped off the frets...
The discussion so far is revolving around using a new neck and putting either a plate of brass or bonding a sheet of brass to the new fingerboard. The idea being that the metal to metal of strings and fretboard should be a little different than other combinations.
As for glissandi and MIDI, I'm looking forward to exploring that deeper ... I do it now on my Godin, though not a lot.
He (the luthier) was meeting with some other lutheirs this past Sunday and was going to ask for their collective wisdom, so I hope to hear some new ideas in the next week or so.

Wow - interesting, Dennis! What material are you looking into as "non-wood"?
I can see the point in using a brass nut if you're going for the
Fernandez sustainer later on, which is all electro-magnetic. Myself I
tried out the Fernandez but decided to use the electro-acoustic
Sustaniac C instead. Sure, it's more easy with the thing always built
into the guitar, but I kind of like how the mechanically vibrating
clamper feels when playing the instrument. And you can use it with
other guitars as well.
What's your plan with a MIDI pickup on fretless? How will you handle glissandi?
