Another instrument that fits this group is my friend Michael Maseley's bowed cymbalom, http://www.oddmusic.com/gallery/om08750.html he has hammers with horse hair along the playing surface and finger rings instead of handles,so he wears 8 of them . can either strike or bow a note beautiful stuff. Slonimski actually included him in his biographical dictionary of 20th century musicians. He occasionally plays the street in Santa Cruz. The site linked is Odd Musical Instruments good resource as is Bart Hopkin's ExperimentL Musical Instruments http://www.windworld.com/ The links page is fantastic, and the tools/resources has very useful stuff for inventing and building instruments. Great books and cds too .If you can find Gravikords Whirlies and Pyrophones grab it. |
