Matthias was a pioneer in using rhythm with live looping.
If you care to check out some of the music made by list
members you'll find that your description of the "continuum"

Every few months someone suggests LD should be a forum,
so it might surprise you that the overwhelming opinion on
the list is "leave it alone...it works".
Maybe it's something to do with the all or nothing nature
of mailing list membership.
