hi Warren,

yes, the Vortex could do this.
Regular playing with dry sound.
Press switch to hold neat crossfaded looplet, while
still passing dry signal.
Press switch again to lose the looplet.
...or something similar involving the pedal.



The secret combination is a controller which simultaneously
increases loop output vol and feedback while decreasing 
loop input volume.
