Yep :) Each track on the Premonition Factory album was done with 1 to
max 3 unsynced loops, without using high end looper features as
offered by the EDP, LP1 or Mobius. So yes, if you're creating a single
loop ambient piece, a M13 can do the trick because you can use it as
both pre-fx and a 28-second looper with reverse, halfspeed and
feedback. Just add a reverb at the end of the chain, that's it.
However, most of the tracks on the album were heavily processed with
pre-looper effects from Expert Sleepers, like Little Spacey, Crossfade
Loopsynth. The M13 is a very useful unit but it can't replace these
plugins. Anyway, since M13 OS 2.0, Line 6 has added many new features
including, midi sync, midi controllable looper functions etc. So far,
the M13 gave me a good feeling, highly recommended.
Btw: For live performances, I'm going back to a mix of both hardware
and software if I don't have to fly. The M13 will probably become my
backup system for pre-fx and looper functions, just in case my laptop
stops working .....which did happen a month ago. Mainstage and/or
Mobius stopped working, probably due to either a corrupt concert file
or plugin. And although I prepare and test my setup always very well,
shit happens...and Murphy was an optimist ;-) I Had to continue my gig
with a DD-20 but I was of course limited in terms of pre-looper
effects and some really good Native Instrument patches I use. It
almost felt like an unplugged looper performance! Anyway, I learned my
lesson...I hope ;-)
