Re: Happy 15th, Looper's Delight!
Happy 15th Anniversary, Loopers Delight!!!!!
I'm so grateful for you continued existence.
This website and this community irrevocably changed the shape of my
artistic life.
Almost everything I've done in the last 12 years has been fairly
directly influenced by the community
and the ideas that I've garnered from it's existence. It's enabled me
to perform in 15 different countries
and radically expanded the scope of my own music because of the amazing
musicians I've been blessed
to hear and to perform with. I was always a side man,
professionally speaking before it and it's
existence and the technologies that it represented (and presented)
indirectly gave me the courage to become a solo artist
I joined in the early years (and can't remember when) but I remember it
very distinctly because
it was , literally, the day this complete and utter computer neophyte
got e-mail running for the first
time on a terrible out of date Mac computer.
I was so turned on by the fact that people from all over the world could
communicate with each other on
a forum (I really did come to this stuff later than most) and that all
their communications came to
my email inbox. I was also overwhelmed by my lack of knowledge about
the internet and computers.
Unfortunately, I was so overwhelmed by the dozens of emails that hit my
inbox in the first few days that I
fairly quickly unsubscribed before I had learned how to get the daily
digest or , god forbid, use a filtering
system in my email (which everyone tells me to do and which I still
haven't done). I didn't rejoin for a while
later.
In late 2002 or early 2003 I wrote the list asking if anyone would
consider doing a mini-festival in their
town in Europe or the UK because I had one seed gig in Italy (that was
later cancelled) and was coming to
tour. In two weeks I had a 2 month tour booked..............this
BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!!
So, yes, all hats off to Kim's vision and dedication to this
community.........to Violet for continuing it.........to
Matthias Grob for his continual attempts to promote and innovate for
this community (it should be known
that Matthias' invention of the Paradis Loop Delay and his involvement
with Gibson and Kim that catalyzed all
of this in the first place which is not to take anything away from Kim's
vision to create it) and for the
amazing group of people that I've met here online and through the
huge amount of looping festivals that we've all been able to play at one
time or another.
Loop on! I say a toast of gratitude to Loopers Delight.
love, Rick Walker
