Re: OT cheap modular synths
As far as sequencers go, the best stand alone I have is a Frostwave. I
don't know if they are still being made, but one pops up on E-bay from
time to time. Extremely under-appreciated they are.

What about
Roland Scooper? Seems like a
bit of both worlds? Take a look at the virtual
sub-modules - there
is enough options to build a little synth. And is kind
of a
looper, which makes this discussion less off topic.

Not to be
blasphemous, but how about the virtual modular
synths? I
think Softube has one that, I would guess based on
everything
else Softube makes, is terrific.

the little project Moog is cheap and

easy to put together, educational,

several companies sell stand-alone
sequencers that can
handle CV (like the Arturia
BeatStep)

Sorry

I would take a look at
semi-modulars, which
can be used standalone and provide
cv
connectivity. Below you will find
a selection
of less expensive ones. You will
find plenty
of reviews on-line. In no
particular order:
Korg MS-20 Mini
Doepfer Dark Energy II
Roland System-1m
Moog Mother-32 (slightly more
expensive but
with sequencer)
Hope this helps,
