Re: Products, Services, and Looping Gear "Packages"

If that were the case, then it would be a no brainer, and we wouldn't have so many people asking how they can start looping with thier laptops. They obviosly don't have all the accessories together to start looping immediately.  This pakage concept is, theortically at this point, for folks who don't own laptops already, or who will be willing to upgrade to a new one that is in the package. I suppose there could be an accessory package too...everything but the laptop (e.g., Indigo IO card, Behringer, USB MIDI connector, Mobius files with configuration already mapped to the Behringer, etc).

It is not always the case the the interfaces used for laptop looping will be used for other applications. For instance, I use my laptop for nothing but looping and effect processing. I have another laptop for sound editing, graphics, etc.  I bought the FCB to conroll Mobius...what else am I going to use it for? I bought the sound card specifically for looping. I could have easily used the stock sound-card for other applications and it would have been fine...and so on. My accessories were specifically purchased for looping, and doing it efficiently and to function efficiently as a system rather than a hodge podge of devices that may or may not play well together.

A starter package might include the following:

- Hewlett-Packard Pavilion Notebook with Intel® Celeron® M Processor 410 (http://tinyurl.com/pbm47) - $750
- Echo Indigo IO cardbus sound card (http://tinyurl.com/qs87o) - $178
- AudioTrak MIDI Mate MIDI to USB connector (http://tinyurl.com/fmvn2) - $40
- Behringer FCB (http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHFCB1010) - $150
Product Sub TOTAL: $ 1118
Setup, Installation, Configuration, Testing: $180 (rough estimate based on 3 hours of work and an hourly consulting/technical fee of $60 per hour)
TOTAL PACKAGE: $1298

It's just a rought estimate, of course. The Setup, Installation, etc...would go down as more systems are built. Some folks might say, why would I pay $180 when I can do that myself? Well, the answer is that if that were the case, then you are not the target market for the package. This is for folks who want to buy a system and have it work right out of the box.

And of course, the system would come completely setup, configured, and ready to loop.
