don't know how much they're going for these days, but I still swear by my 
Boss
SE-50 half-rack multifx, with plenty o' reverb. 

If that's still too pricey, some of the ART multifx like FXR Elite II's and
EFX Network aren't bad, and I picked up one of each for $99 apiece (new in 
the
box) at a music store blowout sale.
