from what I understand, the prevalence of NS10's are not due to being 
amazing
speakers, but from them being used in enough studios that they are a 
picked up
as a common reference point, i.e. you go from studio A to studio B and you 
are
familiar with the sound of the speakers (notches and all) so you can 
evaluate
OTHER things that may be coloring the sound in the other studio.
