When Jimi Hendrix, for instance, emerged into the public consciousness he brought a new vocabulary to the instrument, and to music in general. No-one had thought to put all those techniques together before. Thirty years later there are a million guitarists who can do a quite credible imitation of Jimi--his approach has become part of the common musical vocabulary. The first guy to the top of Everest has it much harder than all the guys who then follow his path. Likewise, faking seventies Tangerine Dream twenty years later isn't that difficult. You've got a well-drawn road map at this point.
