Aboard NASA’s Mars Polar Lander, headed for
                                       landing on the Red Planet on Friday,
is a tiny, $15
                                       microphone, the same kind found in
hearing aids. It will
                                       capture the first sounds heard from
another planet — the
                                       hum of the probe’s machinery, the
soft whistling of wind,
                                       the patter of sand grains hitting
solar panels. 

guess they're gonna broadcast the loudest 10 seconds every day, get yer 
dats
