Low C string:
Acoustic: 58 is recommended and part of the John Pearse NST set. (I use 56)
Electric: Lots of variety.....  Everything from 52 to 60.

I can't recommend the Graph-tech graphite nuts enough!  Same simple,
traditional design.  Completely new performance.

I changed a strat of mine to use a GraphTech nut.  I was blown away at how
the string returns to pitch after near Eddie Van Halen dive-bombs (which I
rarely do anyway).  I'm using an American Standard Strat w/OUT locking
tuners.  ALL future guitars of mine will have this nut.  It's no surprise
that they're becoming standard issue on many guitars.  It's a relatively
simple retrofit that you could do yourself.  To have a luthier fit it and
shape it appropriately would probably run between $30 and $50 bucks -- best
price/performance you'll ever get for a tuning stability modification.

I've been using a PII-350 without SCSI and it works fine.  I do have 198MB
RAM which really helps.  The software I use is Cakewalk's Guitar Studio v.
1.  I'd expect similar success with most popular HD recording software as
well.
