Dan,
    A few years ago, as an exercise, I sent several of my students to 
Radio 
Shack to get "electronics labs"--@ around $50.  Then based on what they 
learned with the 'labs" they were to create their own sound generating 
devices.  They all did well, but a few came up with some amazing and 
occassionally simple designs.  Some of them joined up in teams, a few 
worked 
completely alone.  In my opinion, the best sounding one was fitted to an 
enclosure not much larger than a CDROM drive and it was completely covered 
with knobs!   Any JP8000 (like mine) would've shit blue bricks with 
diamonds 
had it heard this baby!!  A girl, an art major built it.  Try it yourself, 
you might enjoy it.  ;-)
