Somewhat related but perhaps not...I remember hearing Elvin Jones talk 
about 
a gig
he played with John Coltrane in Philadelphia where they played the opening 
number
for 3 hours to an audience that dwindled a little during the duration of 
the 
tune. My
understanding is that Coltrane once told Miles Davis he found it hard to 
stop 
playing
sometimes and what could he do about that issue. Miles' reply was "Take 
the 
horn
