That was Steve Albini's take on archiving at the same conference - his opinion is that magnetic tape and vinyl records are the only valid archiving methods, since any digital storage medium will be obsolete and unreadable within a few years, but that if necessary you can make a pickup that will read a magnetic tape or vinyl records very easily. However, if you're working in a digital medium and you wish to archive your data, I think it makes sense to keep a digital copy.
